Shock-compressible-vortex interactions: Computing approximate post-shock fields
نویسندگان
چکیده
An approximate, semi-analytical method to compute the net effect of the passage of a planar shock through a steady compressible vortex is developed. To compute the approximate post-shock fields, the steady pre-shock vortex is decomposed into a sum of frozen sinusoidal modes, the shock wave is treated as an instantaneous event (an ansatz most suited to weak shocks), and the interaction of each frozen mode with the shock wave analytically computed. The post-shock fields are then obtained by numerically resuming the shocked Fourier modes. This theory is applied to the interaction of a shock with the compressible Stuart vortex array, Meiron et al.1. The evolution of these approximate post-shock fields are compared with numerical solutions to actual initial-value problem, where the passage of the shock is computed numerically. These simulations are done using AMROC, Deiterding2–4, in conjunction with Hill & Pullin’s5 tuned-centered-difference-WENO method.

A Modified Flux Vector Splitting Scheme for Flow Analysis in Shock Wave Laminar Boundary Layer Interactions
The present work introduces a modified scheme for the solution of compressible 2-D full Navier-Stokes equations, using Flux Vector Splitting method. As a result of this modification, numerical diffusion is reduced. The computer code which is developed based on this algorithm can be used easily and accurately to analyze complex flow fields with discontinuity in properties, in cases such as shock...

متن کاملGlobal visualization and quantification of compressible vortex loops
The physics of compressible vortex loops generated due to the rolling up of the shear layer upon the diffraction of a shock wave from a shock tube is far from being understood, especially when shock-vortex interactions are involved. This is mainly due to the lack of global quantitative data available which characterizes the flow. The present study involves the usage of the PIV technique to char...
متن کاملMixing Characteristics of Compressible Vortex Rings Interacting with Normal Shock Waves
The instability mechanisms and mixing enhancement arising from the interaction of a compressible vortex ring with a normal shock wave were studied in a colinear, dual-shock tube. This flow geometry simulates features of the interaction of a shock wave with a jet containing streamwise vorticity, a configuration of significant interest for supersonic combustion applications. Flow visualization an...
متن کاملMultistage interaction of a shock wave and a strong vortex
The interaction between a shock wave and a strong vortex is simulated systematically through solving the two-dimensional, unsteady compressible Navier–Stokes equations using a fifth-order weighted essentially nonoscillatory finite difference scheme. Our main purpose in this study is to characterize the flow structure and the generation of sound waves of the shock–strong vortex interaction. The ...
